Snowflake Challenge Day 6

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) and that you ended up loving.

This is hard for me. I read a lot of fic and frankly, I'll read almost anything and am not shy about it. At all. But, I finally came up with some fic that were not my norm that impacted me in some way.

Chaos War by astolat | NC-17 | 34,203 | Thor/Loki | It was never easy to find Loki when he wanted to hide, but he wasn't doing a particularly good job of it at the moment. Probably he didn't think anyone from Asgard would be wasting their time hunting for him while the shining ones churned their way steadily through all the realm. | Warnings: Dubious Consent, Incest

♠ Before I read this, I was wanting to read Loki fic, but I wasn't sold on the idea of Thor/Loki, partially because I was still coming to terms with the incestuous aspect. Before this, I had read (and written) incest pairings before, but almost exclusively in the angsty or porny one-shot way, not a novel where the relationship actually grows and develops, but the sheer number of kudos and comments on this fic made me try it. It blew me away. It has one of the best Loki's I've read and I just adored the entire thing. After reading it, I have no problem reading Thor/Loki as a pairing, in fact I quite enjoy it. I may even write it. :D

Hawaii Five-0

♠ I had read fic that contained these elements before, mostly late at night and just PWPs, but when I read this I was blown away. This fic slowly showed the development in Steve and Danny's relationship that led to them both enjoying S/M. The way she painted Danny in particular was astounding. For the first time, I really bought this type of a relationship as a believable development of the characters.

♠ This fic belongs here for several reasons. First off, as a rule I don't like reading about Mary, but enjoyed reading her here. Secondly, underage sibling incest is not something I normally admit to reading even if I do (glances askance at the Weasleys), but this one was so well done that it prompted me to want to write my own take on Steve and Mary's fucked up childhood. That's right, this fic prompted me to write my own underage sibling incest. It also made me kind of ship Steve/Mary just a little. This fic moved me creatively in ways I never would have expected.

So there you go, three fic that changed my mind, led me in new creative directions, and pushed my boundaries. :D

Snowflake Challenge Day 2

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Because I run the h50_rec_room most of the Hawaii Five-0 fic and fanart I love gets recced there. For this challenge I wanted to rec things that for whatever reason have never been recced in that comm or on my own journal.

Stress Relief by somehowunbroken | NC-17 | 1119 | Steve/SEAL Team | Sometimes it's the best way for all of them to destress.

♠ I had never read a gang bang fic that was this consensual before. Not only did Steve enjoy the experience but there was no humiliation, no dubious consent, and aftercare. And on top of all of that it was really hot. It kinda blew my mind and I have reread it over and over again. I have found other consensual gang bangs since reading this one, but none this good.

Avengers
you and your high top sneakers and your sailor tattoos by musesfool | NC-17 | 5,870 | Steve/Darcy | In which Darcy Lewis punches Captain America's v-card. Yeah, she can't believe it either.

♠ As a pretty solid Steve/Tony shipper, I didn't expect to like this fic as much as I did. I mean, I read lots of pairings, but this one I just wasn't so sure about. Then I read it. It was funny and sweet and so beautifully in character. The thing I liked the best though was that neither Cap nor Darcy were looking for something serious in this fic. They were both just finding a moment with each other.

Young Justice (cartoon)
By Any Other Name by traincat | PG-13 | 4987 | Gen | The base is compromised and Superboy needs a place to stay. Lois Lane steps up to the plate. Lessons about the fine art of journalism (and breaking and entering for justice) ensue.

♠ This fic is laugh out loud funny. The Lois in this fic is smart and tough and absolutely wonderful and the way she juggles both an angry, angsty Superboy and a cowardly, freaked out Superman is brilliant. Young Justice is a great cartoon and to date this is one of the best fics I've read based on it.

There you have it folks. Three fic from three different fandoms. None of them my OTPs and none of them recced before by me. This was kind of fun. :D

Snowflake Challenge Day 1

I chose to rec three of my favorite fic. It was very hard to pick three fic because there are things that I like and dislike about everything I've written, but in the end I went with these. They are all Hawaii Five-0 and all pretty angsty and emotionally complicated because that is what usually moves me the most as a writer.

Fading into Beautiful Light | NC-17 | 20,118 | When Rachel is killed Steve has his work cut out for him trying to hold Danny and Grace together. He may be the only one who really understands Grace’s pain but between Danny taking his own anger out on Steve and all of the unresolved feelings between the two of them nothing is easy.

♠ This fic had to be on the list. It's the longest fic I've ever written and it is probably the one I am most proud of. When I first finished it I could barely stand to look at it but now I am quite pleased with the way it turned out and the comments I got were very humbling.

Miles from Where You Are | NC-17 | 7186 | Danny should be happy, after all, he has Rachel and Grace. So why are his nights spent taking care of a broken Steve?

♠ This fic took me over and I pretty much lived and breathed it until it was done. I took on some heavy topics and struggled not to make it too easy or unrealistic. I've learned a lot about writing since then, but I am still very proud of this story and it is one of my personal favorites. It was also one of the most enjoyable to write in a lot of ways.

Tear My Heart Open | NC-17 | 921 | Steve wants Danny however he can get him.

♠ The thing I like most about this fic is how different it is from my usual. Usually I write about trust and mutual support in relationships, but this one is an inversion of that. Both Steve and Danny are broken and the trust is shattered. It poured out of me in one sitting, dark and unforgiving. I like the darkness of it and I am also very fond of some of the descriptions I wrote.

thegrrrl2002 wrote me an absolutely amazing fic in the h50_holidayswap. It is so perfect. There is banter and humor and action and hurt/comfort and porn and ALL THE FEELINGS! Seriously it is truly amazing and I am honored that she wrote it for me. So, if by some chance you missed it go! Read now!
