I've gotten a bit behind because of the monster cold from hell, but this post should catch me up.
Snowflake Challenge Day 10In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.I would like to talk about
tailoredshirt. She writes lots of excellent fic full of great dialogue and a lot of humor, but I really want to highlight her videos. She has not created a video that I didn't love and I truly believe that she is the best vidder in the Hawaii Five-0 fandom. The time and effort she takes to seamlessly match music with the clips is evident. Her videos are flawless and truly highlight the "art" part of "fan art."
You can find her videos
here. Every single one is worth a watch and her love for all of the characters shines through in every second.
Snowflake Challenge Day 11In your own space, ask for recs. Something as simple as "I like XYZ (where XYZ is a kink, a pairing, a trope, etc) - please rec me some." Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.I would love recs for any good DC comics, JLA/JLU, Young Justice, or Smallville fic. I am just starting to read some in these fandoms and am finding it difficult to find good fic. I would prefer long and meaty fic that are not significantly AU (I am not fond of career change AUs or AUs that significantly change the character relationships). I like slash and would generally prefer fics that include the Batfamily (except in Smallville). Other than that, I'm open to anything good. :D
Snowflake Challenge Day 12In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. I know that the Avengers movie fandom is really taking off, but in my obsessive reading a few months ago I found a lot of wonderful comic fic and resources that made me love Steve/Tony so much more. Before I got into this fandom, I knew nothing about the comics, but I think that some knowledge of them really enhances my love for the characters. Also, some of the comic based fic are absolutely excellent and shouldn't be missed. Here are a few of the best things I found for someone new to the comic-verse:
Steve/Tony Ship Manifesto by
elspethdixon♠ This manifesto hits all the high points of their relationship over decades worth of comics and is well worth the read. Their relationship simultaneously breaks your heart and makes you smile. Seriously, this is a must read. If you aren't sold on Steve and Tony because you haven't seen them on screen together, take a gander at this. It will convince you.
Captain America/Iron Man Slashy Moments List ♠ If you are like me and find 60 or so years of comic back story a bit daunting, take a look at this. The great people at
cap_ironman maintain a collection of comic scans that highlight the friendship and slashy interactions between Steve and Tony in the comics. Here you will find the infamous bagel moment, that time Steve rode Tony like a pony, and all the heartbreak around the Marvel Civil War. In my opinion, looking through these scans is an awesome way to spend an afternoon and get a better understanding of the characters in the process.
Resurrection, Reconstruction, and Redemption by
seanchai and
elspethdixon | PG-13 | 94,339 | Doom brings Steve back from the dead. Hijinks ensue, some of which might vaguely be considered plot. Surprisingly, this isn't actually crack-fic - it's just Marvel.
♠ This is the first in a long series of excellent comic based fic set shortly after Steve's death. I first read it when I was just getting into the fandom and am ashamed to admit that a lot of the characters (the other non-movie Avengers) were like OCs to me, but that was okay. I could still follow the story and completely fall for the tragic post-Marvel Civil War love story that was the heart. This was the first of many post-Civil War stories I read and I adore the angst and emotion in them.
Cap/Ironman: Civil War Battlefield by
Billie4Mozzarella ♠ Speaking of the Marvel Civil War, this video is amazing. I literally can not watch it without crying. The creator used still comic scans (and only one photoshopped pic) to tell the story of the Civil War and how it impacted Steve and Tony's relationship. It is seriously heartbreaking and the song choice was excellent. I don't even have words for the emotions I get watching this video.
