Snowflake Challenge Day 15

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
How do you choose just one thing for this? My entire life has been about fandom in one way or another. I mean my parents took me to Star Trek conventions when I was in elementary school. Whether it was Buffy with my high school friends, sports with the guys in college, Harry Potter fic reading, watching anime with my brother, the Hawaii Five-0 online fandom, etc. I have always been doing something with fandom.
Because of fandom I have met new friends and gotten to know old friends better. I have gone to Dragon*Con four times with some of my dearest friends from college. I have been inspired to write an amazing amount. Fandom is, in some ways, the largest part of my life. My family and friends, both in person and online, are all fans of something and not afraid to embrace the geeky lifestyle.
So, I could literally discuss a million things here, but I won't. Instead I'll share a happy memory about Smallville of all things. When I was in graduate school my dear friend![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
shadynaiad and I would get together every Thursday (I think it was Thursday, but it doesn't matter it was once a week) after I got off my internship. We would hang out at her apartment and watch my Smallville DVDs for hours just reveling in the blatant Clark/Lex slash. We loved Lex and generally just loved a show that didn't make us think too hard after a week of grad school.
Some weeks we would get up to other fandom related shenanigans as well. One week we baked and decorated cupcakes as a form of fan art for a favorite Harry Potter fic that we were both reading and sent pictures to the author. Then we ate them while watching Lex be awesome. LOL.

Basically we just had a grand old time fangirling and being silly and not worrying about grad school. I often say thatshadynaiad is like my fandom Yoda. She introduced me to the concept of fanfic and to slash and to online fandom in general. Before I met her, I was a fangirl and a geek, but thanks to her I am active online about it. So you might want to either thank her or curse her depending on how well you like me. ;)
